Mr Boston Bear 2011 Contest Summary

On August 27, 2011, Hurricane Irene was bearing down on the southern coast of New England. Despite the impending storm, a capacity crowd, with men from all over New England came to the Alley Bar in Boston to see the first "Mr. Boston Bear 2011" competition sponsored by our new Bear Community group, MASSBEARZ. The competition was the first major bear event in Boston, in many years.

Ten hot men participated for the title to represent within New England's Bear community. Stephen Hogan, from Pawtucket RI, was chosen as the first Mr. Boston Bear. Stephen wowed the audience, as well as a superb panel of judges, across the board in every section of competition. Since then, Stephen has already demonstrated incredible enthusiasm and responsibility for community involvement.

Danny Vela became a strong first runner up and Rob Claffie was our second runner up. MASSBEARZ extends a huge thank you and appreciation to all participants, judges, and those who helped behind the scenes, to make this event possible. We are proud to say great planning and momentum provided by MASSBEARZ, brought bears, cubs, chasers, chubs and admirers together, in a city anxious for events to show bear pride. Our hope is to bring enthusiasm, new activity and energy to the Boston bear community. Thank you to all who attended, who stayed all night, and helped support this cause. Look for future MASSBEARZ events and participate where and when you can. Please rally behind Mr. Boston Bear Stephen Hogan and support his efforts to unite our bear communities.
